SUMMARY
Currently on the Vietnam market there are many cough treatment products made from the Ivy medicinal herb (Hedera helix L.), but the quality standards of this Ivy leaves medicinal herbs have not been mentioned in the Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia V, and consequently the quality control of this medicinal material has not been properly addressed. This study was conducted on Ivy leaves collected in Binh Dinh province with the goal of developing and validating a procedure for simultaneously quantifying hederacoside C and α-hederin, thereby standardizing the Ivy leaves grown in Binh Dinh. The study has developed and validated a quantitative procedure with high selectivity, precision and accuracy, good linearity (r2 > 0.999), wide quantitative range (0.707 – 1.079 mg/ml and 0.097 – 0.148 mg/ml for hederacoside C and α-hederin, respectively), low limit of detection and limit of quantification (0.010 mg/ml;
0.030 mg/ml and 0.003 mg/ml; 0.007 mg/ml for hederacoside C and α-hederin, respectively). The in-house specification of this Ivy leaves medicinal herbs was established with 10 criteria. The results of this study contribute to creating a foundation for evaluating the quality of Ivy leaves medicinal herbs, thereby contributing to the quality control of Ivy leaves grown in Binh Dinh province.
