Summary

Total bacoside in Bacopa monnieri L. was quanlititatively determined using an HPLC-DAD method, using an Agilent XDB C18 reversed-phase column (250 x 4.6 mm, 5 µm), a gradient condition of acetonitrile (A) and 0.1 % phosphate buffer in water (B), the flow rate was 1.5 mL/min and the detection wavelengths were set at 205 nm, the standard curves were linear over the concentration range of 0.21–1.68 mg/mL. The quantitative method has been validated, showing that it is selective, specific, and accurate, suitable for the quantification of total bacosides in B. monnieri L. Quantitative results of some samples of B. monnieri in Vietnam showed that there was a difference in bacosides content between the sampling locations, ranging from 1.89 % to 5.74 % based on dried of the analyzed samples. Most of the B. monnieri L. samples collected in Vietnam met the requirements of total bacosides as prescribed by the British Pharmacopoeia and the American Pharmacopoeia.
