TÓM TẮT

Antibiotics are a major turning point in medicine, but for now are also the biggest concern in the global health system. To control the dangerous consequences of antibiotic abuse, the antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP) are in place and recommended for use around the world. In Vietnam, Hospital for Tropical Diseases Ho Chi Minh City is one of the first hospitals to implement the ASP. This retrospective study is conducted to evaluate the use of antibiotics in the hospital’s ASP stage. The Day of Therapy indicator was used to evaluate the antibiotic usage status. The nASP stage (01/06/2018 – 31/03/2020) recorded a higher rate of improvement than the pASP stage (01/04/2016 – 31/03/2018). Length of stay in hospital increased from 8.48 to 8.69 days. At the same time, the DOT increased significantly from 7.52 to 8.67 days. The study found that DOT / 1000 days hospital stay tended to decrease and the rate of reduction of nASP period was greater than pASP (-3,7858 and -3,1287 respectively). The ASP has a impact on antibiotic use at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for the period 2016 – 2020. The study recommended further studies and further long-term assessment of the impact of this program.
