Summary

Rutin is a flavonoid with strong antioxidant properties and its effectiveness in treating symptoms of varicose veins. This study was carried out to determine the quantification of rutin in microemulsion-based gel, a potential dosage form in the use of rutin to treat varicose veins. HPLC conditions for quantitative determination of rutin in microemulsion – based gel were determined using Thermo Scientific Syncronis C18 chromatographic column (250 x 4.6 mm; 5 μm), C18 HQ105pre-column (4 × 10 mm; 5 µm) with a mobile phase composition of acetonitrile and acid formic (76:24, v/v). The flow rate was 1 ml/min, sample injection volume was 20 µl and quantitative wavelength was 255 nm. The quantification method was within the validation acceptance range for system suitability, linearity, specificity, accuracy and precision. This method can be used to develop and characterize rutin microemulsion-based gel.
