Thuoc thuong (Phaeanthus vietnamensis Ban) is an endemic species of Vietnam, a precious medicinal plant used in folk medicine to treat colic, dysentery… In experimental peptic ulcer models in mice, Thuoc thuong leaf extract has a similar anti-ulcer effect with that of omeprazole, specifically: In the aspirin-induced ulcer model, Thuoc thuong leaf extract reduces the ulcer index compared with the pathological control group by 57% (7 g/kg dose) and 48% (dose 14 g/kg); In the ethanol-induced ulcer model, Thuoc thuong extract reduces the ulcer index compared with the pathological control group of 59% (dose 7 g/kg) and 46% (dose 14 g/kg); In the cold immobilization stress ulcer model, Thuoc thuong leaf extract reduces the ulcer index compared with the pathological control group of 29% (7 g/kg dose) and 25% (14 g/kg dose).
